Bio
Los Angeles-based multi-genre artist KEVINRAY is a virtual versatile entertainer. He's music mostly ranges from Pop/R&B/Hip-Hop but along with his music, his creativity and talent spreads to acting, dancing, choreography, and high-tech video filming skills.
He fell in love with the magic of entertainment through Michael Jackson's dancing in his video Smooth Criminal... KEVINRAY
self-taught every step of MJ’s legendary technique by slowing down the video frame by frame to mimic Michael's moves. He said to himself “that's it” He later performed as a MJ impersonator at local weddings and also duplicated versions of Ja Rule and Nelly videos featuring himself in the starring roles... His father recognized his talent and said he should produce his own songs...
He said "That's it! I'm moving to California to pursue my dream"... Shortly after graduating from COLLEGE, he arrived in San Diego
where he was able to get gigs with MTV and the supergroup Digital Underground... He eventually found some success in dancing performing at corporate events... Besides Digital Underground, his major Hip Hop influences were Run DMC, Public Enemy, and NWA... Speaking of Digital Underground... through a chance meeting he was able to form a bond with Shock G who invited him to appear with them at one of their concerts where he was gifted to perform “live” with Digital Underground... On the closing track of the sold out San Diego Concert ... he performed original lyrics over the "Freaks of the industry" beat played live on the piano by Shock...During the performance Kevin realized that this surreal experience transported him to an out of body experience as his heart was concentrating on the
music and his soul was soaking in this incredible journey...what a thrill he shares performing live with the legend Shock G and Digital Underground.
Some of his other notable achievements include:
- Creating several songs for the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks including their official "Code of Conduct" song/video which plays before every home game at the Staples Center and their 2016 season theme "Come Watch Us Work"
- Appearing with his dance crew "The Body Poets" on TRU TV's "Fake Off" placing 3rd in the competition in which Chili from 90s R&B supergroup TLC was a judge.
- Placement of single "Stomp The Yard" featuring and produced by Legend Da Beatslaya on Sony's Major Motion Picture "Stomp The Yard" featuring Chris Brown & Ne-Yo.
KEVINRAY says he owes his success to a favorite life lesson quote his father instilled in him which was "anything worth having doesn't come easy... You have to work for it..." Kevin says his greatest asset is not his multi talents but his work ethic... He shares that it took him countless hours and years to hone his craft. The dreams of a small-town prodigy have come close to fruition as he has performed as an opening act for DJ Quick and Petey Pablo... KEVINRAY's nonstop work ethic has him working on the visuals for his recently released "I Choose You" album... He Thanks Universal Distributed Thump Records and Sky Tower Records for supporting and contributing to his project... When asked about what advice he would pass on to young up-and-coming artists... KEVINRAY shared that each artist is his or
her own creative star ... And to try to tell an artist what road to follow is difficult... However, he says he would tell his younger
self to spend more time making connections... Networking... In this business he says it is truly all about who you know... Not in a superficial way... Not in a fake way... It's all about cultivating face-to-face relationships... Rubbing shoulders with people in the know in clubs and social
situations... He goes on to say that had he known this he would've spent more time building relationships instead of countless hours in the studio.
